FINAL DAYS TO TELL DEQ TO ABANDON BEACH DOOMING GP

Monday, September 13, is the last day to submit comments to the DEQ about their proposed General Permit (GP) for beach dooming. As of today, more than 450 of Michigan's wetland advocates have submitted comments to the DEQ opposing a new GP for coastal wetland destruction. That stands in stark contrast with the 29 people commenting in support of the GP.  I'm calling on any and all MWACers who haven't already sent in their comments to the DEQ to do so today.

Send a fax to DEQ

Read the proposed GP

CORPS NJDs POSTED; TELL CONGRESS TO SUPPORT CWARA

The Army Corps of Engineers recently ordered its district offices to begin posting information to the internet on all instances in which they have declined to extend Clean Water Act protections to various water bodies and wetlands.  Most districts have complied with this directive and are now making public a brief data form on each "non jurisdictional determination" (NJD). Links to these forms from many of the Corps districts is available here thanks to the Clean Water Network.

The Clean Water Authority Restoration Act (H.R. 962) would clarify and strengthen jurisdiction to better protect waters and wetlands of the United States. The following Michigan Members of Congress have not signed on to this bill: Thaddeus McCotter, Candice Miller, Joe Knollenberg, Mike Rogers, Nick Smith, Fred Upton, Dale Kildee, Dave Camp, Peter Hoekstra. If your representative is on this list, please encourage him/her to co-sponsor this legislation.
